Bioinspired Shape‐Memory Hook Fasteners With Programmable Interlocking and Silent Release

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bioinspired hook fasteners made from epoxy shape‐memory polymers are shown to switch between strong, secure attachment and gentle, silent release when heated. By combining programmable geometry and material response, these adaptive fasteners outperform commercial systems in strength and noise control, enabling new solutions for robotics, medical ...

Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

DETERMINATION OF THE EFFECTIVE PERMITTIVITY OF A HETEROGENEOUS MATERIAL

open access: yesElectrical engineering & Electromechanics, 2020
Purpose. To develop a two-dimensional numerical-field model for determining the effective permittivity of a multicomponent material represented by a system of homogeneous volumes with known physical characteristics. Methodology. The model is based on the

The Landau gauge gluon propagator at zero and finite temperature: accounting for the combined finite lattice spacing and finite volume effects

open access: yes, 2012
In the past years a good comprehension of the infrared gluon propagator has been achieved, with a good qualitative agreement between lattice results and Dyson-Schwinger equations. However, lattice simulations have been performed at physical volumes which

Evaluation of Plasticity and Creep Parameters From Tensile Stress–Strain Data for a Range of Strain Rates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This plot compares experimental tensile stress–strain curves (with 4 different strain rates) and corresponding modelled curves (obtained using the optimised sets of Voce and Miller–Norton parameter values shown). The inferred M‐N values, characterizing the creep, are very similar to those obtained via conventional creep testing.

Simplicial volume with $\mathbb{F}_p$-coefficients

open access: yes, 2019
For primes $p$, we investigate an $\mathbb{F}_p$-version of simplicial volume and compare these invariants with their siblings over other coefficient rings.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Solución numérica de las ecuaciones de Navier-Stokes incompresibles por el método de los volúmenes finitos

open access: yesRevista Ion, 2013
The main goal of this paper is the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible flow. A numerical approach with a finite volume discretization technique and using the method of fractional stepsare presented to solver the ...

Efficient Methods to Calculate Partial Sphere Surface Areas for a Higher Resolution Finite Volume Method for Diffusion-Reaction Systems in Biological Modeling

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications, 2019
Computational models for multicellular biological systems, in both in vitro and in vivo environments, require solving systems of differential equations to incorporate molecular transport and their reactions such as release, uptake, or decay. Examples can

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...
