Fire responses and resistance of concrete-filled steel tubular frame structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents the results of dynamic responses and fire resistance of concretefilled steel tubular (CFST) frame structures in fire conditions by using non-linear finite element method.

Fire fighting robot [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Fire-fighting is an important but dangerous occupation. A fire-fighter must be able to put out fire quickly and safely. This is a common way to prevent fatalities and further damages.

Biomass-modulated fire dynamics during the last glacial-interglacial transition at the central pyrenees (Spain) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Understanding long-term fire ecology is essential for current day interpretation of ecosystem fire responses. However palaeoecology of fire is still poorly understood, especially at high-altitude mountain environments, despite the fact that these are ...

Fire design in safety engineering: likely fire curve for people’s safety [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The present study analyses fire design settings according to Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) for the simulation of fire in civil activities and compares these simulations developed using natural and analytic fire curves.

Culture and awareness of occupational health risks amongst UK firefighters

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Firefighters are exposed to toxic chemicals not only from the fire incidents they attend, but also from their contaminated station and/or personal protective equipment (PPE).

A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Scaling-up experiments of smouldering combustion as a remediation technology for contaminated soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Self-sustaining Treatment for Active Remediation (STAR) is a novel, patent-pending process that uses smouldering combustion as a remediation technology for land contaminated with hazardous organic liquids. Compounds such as chlorinated solvents, coal tar

Time, the final frontier

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This article advocates integrating temporal dynamics into cancer research. Rather than relying on static snapshots, researchers should increasingly consider adopting dynamic methods—such as live imaging, temporal omics, and liquid biopsies—to track how tumors evolve over time.

Data Mining of Online Genealogy Datasets for Revealing Lifespan Patterns in Human Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Online genealogy datasets contain extensive information about millions of people and their past and present family connections. This vast amount of data can assist in identifying various patterns in human population. In this study, we present methods and

The provision of fire services in rural areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Fire services have been neglected in discussions of public service provision in rural areas. The way in which they are provided has a broader significance in terms of current debates about risk management.
