Multiplexed Retinoic Acid Signal Reporters for In Vivo and In Vitro Use

open access: yesgenesis, Volume 64, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Here we describe the optimisation of a modular, generally applicable and rapid method to make multimerised signaling‐molecule reporters for detecting different retinoic acid concentrations. The technical plasmid design allows for the easy exchange of reporters, promoters, signal‐responsive elements as well as for the multimerization of entire ...

Imported Fire Ants

open access: yes, 2020
Imported fire ants (Order Hymenoptera, Family Formicidae) (IFA) are social insects representing two South American ant species: the red imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta Buren) and black imported fire ant (Solenopsis richteri Forel), along with their

When the Cover Burns: Behavioral and Morphological Responses of Western Fence Lizards (Sceloporus occidentalis) to Increased Openness in Post‐Fire Environments

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
We found that Western Fence Lizards experience higher detectability in burned areas but do not consistently darken or adjust perch use to enhance background matching, despite showing improved camouflage on darker substrates. These results suggest that lizards may face behavioral trade‐offs in post‐fire landscapes that could influence success.

Study on Fire Characteristics and Evacuation of the Haikousanlu Subway Station in Wuhan

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
In order to study the fire development and evacuation in the subway station, this paper establishes the simulation model of the fire and evacuation in the subway station through PyroSim and Pathfinder simulators. During the simulation, the smoke temperature, CO concentration, and visibility of key positions are recorded over time.

Impact of the invasive ant Linepithema humile on native ant assemblages on the western slopes of Table Mountain and implications for ant-butterfly associations

open access: yes, 2011
The Argentine Ant, Linepithema humile (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), is one of the world's most successful invasive species and invades undisturbed Fynbos habitats in South Africa, displacing native arthropod species and affecting interspecific associations.

Striatal Prediction Error Tracking Moderates the Influence of Social Exposure on Adolescent Substance Use Curiosity

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 8, June 1, 2026.
Weaker striatal prediction error tracking among adolescents was associated with greater curiosity about substance use. In contrast, striatal tracking also moderated peer influence such that adolescents with stronger social prediction error tracking showed greater curiosity when peers used substances.

Fire buffers drought impacts on reproduction in a resprouting Mediterranean shrub

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 6, June 2026.
Fire and drought increasingly co‐occur, exposing plants to greater drought stress during post‐fire resprouting. Yet, the effect of this combination of disturbances on plant fitness remains poorly understood. Here, we examine how post‐fire resprouting influences reproductive success under drought conditions in the Mediterranean shrub Anthyllis ...

The value of information in biosecurity risk-benefit assessment: an application to red imported fire ants

open access: yes
Policy makers are confronted daily with uncertainty, especially in complex areas like biosecurity. One way to improve decision-making and reduce uncertainties is to collect more information.
