Analysis Of Fire Statistics Of China: Fire Frequency And Fatalities In Fires [PDF]

open access: yesFire Safety Science, 2005
This paper presents an analysis of fire statistical data for China between 1998 and 2002. Fire situation and fire characteristic have been discussed with the method of average analysis, dynamic analysis and factor analysis. Analysis reveals that the government’s efforts to fire protection have succeeded to some extent.

Effects of fire frequency on savanna butterfly diversity and composition: A preliminary study

open access: yesKoedoe: African Protected Area Conservation and Science, 2020
Fire plays a major role in many biomes, is widely used as a management tool and is likely to be affected by climate change. For effective conservation management, it is essential to understand how fire regimes affect different taxa, yet responses of ...

Temperature-based fire frequency analysis using machine learning: A case of Changsha, China

open access: yes, 2021
Previous studies mainly focused on the influences of climate change on wildfires. However, other types of fires are also weather-related (especially temperature-related).

Contrasting Geographic Patterns of Ignition Probability and Burn Severity in the Mojave Desert

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
The extent and frequency of fire has increased in many arid systems over the last century, with a large proportion of area in some regions undergoing transitions to novel conditions.

Fire Has a Positive Effect on the Abundance of Sun Spiders (Arachnida: Solifugae) in the Cerrado-Pantanal Ecotone

open access: yesFire, 2023
Fire is an important disturbance factor in shrublands, grasslands, and savannas. It alters the habitat of a multitude of species and, under natural dynamics, is a major determinant of landscape vegetation patterns.

A Bayesian model for predicting monthly fire frequency in Kenya. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of historical fire and climatic data to estimate the monthly frequency of vegetation fires in Kenya. This work introduces a statistical model that captures the behavior of fire count data, incorporating temporal explanatory factors and emphasizing the predictive significance of maximum temperature and ...

Assessing the Ecological Need for Prescribed Fire in Michigan Using GIS-Based Multicriteria Decision Analysis: Igniting Fire Gaps

open access: yesDiversity, 2021
In fire-suppressed landscapes, managers make difficult decisions about devoting limited resources for prescribed fire. Using GIS-based multicriteria decision analysis, we developed a model assessing ecological need for prescribed fire on Michigan’s state-

High fire frequency reduces soil fertility underneath woody plant canopies of Mediterranean ecosystems.

open access: yesScience of the Total Environment, 2020
Spatial heterogeneity of soil properties plays a major role in regulating ecosystem structure and functioning. In general, soil resources accumulate beneath woody plant-covered patches more than in the open interspace, making them function as fertility ...

Pastoral Burning and Its Contribution to the Fire Regime of Alto Minho, Portugal

open access: yesFire, 2023
Alto Minho (in northwestern Iberia) is one of the European regions most affected by fires. Many of these fires originate from rangeland management of Atlantic heathlands, and, while being illegal, often are not actively suppressed.
