Impacts of Indigenous Cultural Burning Versus Hazard Reduction on Dry Sclerophyll Forest Composition, Abundance, and Species Richness in Southeast Australia

open access: yesFire
Fire has had a profound impact on Australia’s landscapes and biodiversity since the late Tertiary. Indigenous (Aboriginal) people have lived in Australia for at least 65,000 years and fire is an integral part of their culture and cosmology.

Hypothalamic Control of Liver Health and Disease: From Circuits to Pathophysiology and Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review delineates the hypothalamic circuits that control liver homeostasis via autonomic and neuroendocrine pathways. Dysregulation of this hypothalamus–liver axis drives disease progression across a spectrum including steatotic liver disease, liver inflammation and injury, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Targeting the KCNC3‐Dependent Anterior Insular‐Lateral Orbitofrontal Cortex Glutamatergic Circuit Attenuates Post‐Traumatic Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Frontal lobe traumatic brain injury is associated with hyperactivity of an insular–orbitofrontal circuit in both patients and mice. By combination of integrating functional imaging, cell‐type–specific circuit manipulation, single‐cell transcriptomics, and whole‐cell recordings, this work identifies the downregulation of the potassium channel KCNC3 in ...

Phonon‐Driven Tetrahedral Tilts Enable Ultralow Bulk Thermal Expansion and Interstitial Oxide‐Ion Migration in Phenacite Solid Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a design paradigm of phonon‐driven negative‐thermal‐expansion (NTE) flexible framework that exploits the intrinsic lattice flexibility of NTE frameworks to simultaneously suppress thermal expansion and activate oxide‐ion conduction, offering a promising strategy to mitigate TEC mismatch in solid‐state ionic devices.
