The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

A Minimal Model for the Vegetation Combustion in Wildfire Simulators
In this paper a semi-physical model for the vegetation burning in wildland fire is proposed. The model is developed with the final aim to simulate large scale wildland fires which spread on heterogeneous landscape. In a modular modelling approach, it can

The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Modeling vegetation fires and fire emissions [PDF]
Fire is the most important ecological and forest disturbance agent worldwide, is a major way by which carbon is transferred from the land to the atmosphere, and is globally a significant source of greenhouse gases and aerosols. Wildfires across all major biome types globally consume about 5% of net annual terrestrial primary production per annum, and ...

Fire–diffuse–fire model of dynamics of intracellular calcium waves [PDF]
When Ca 2+ is released from internal stores in living cells, the resulting wave of increased concentration can travel without deformation (continuous propagation) or with burst-like behavior (saltatory propagation).

Polymorph engineering in ErMnO3 enables low‐voltage, forming‐free threshold switching with tunable negative differential resistance. Conducting orthorhombic regions embedded in an insulating hexagonal matrix provide controlled Joule‐heating‐enhanced Poole–Frenkel transport. The hexagonal phase prevents excessive heating and breakdown.

Uncertainties in façade fire tests – measurements and modeling
In this paper a comparison between test and modelling results are performed for two large-scale façade fire testing methods, namely SP Fire 105 and BS 8414-1. In order to be able to compare tests and modelling the uncertainties have to be quantified both

This study demonstrates an artificial polymodal nociceptor whose firing threshold is actively modulated by temperature. A volatile TiN/TiOx/ZnO/TiOx/ITO memristor shows interfacial ion–driven resistive switching and membrane‐potential‐like dynamics, enabling temperature‐dependent nociceptive behavior.

The behaviour of reinforced concrete slabs in fire [PDF]
In this paper a robust model is presented based on the previous layer procedure developed by the author to also take into account the effects of concrete spalling on the behaviour of concrete slabs under fire conditions.
