Fire safety engineering at a crossroad

open access: yesCase Studies in Fire Safety, 2014
AbstractFire safety engineering (FSE) has become widely accepted throughout the world. This is quite an accomplishment for a young engineering discipline. Fire safety engineers are employed by public and private sector organizations of all types. We are involved in almost all major building and infrastructure projects, enabling amazing buildings to be ...

Revealing the Hazard of Mild Electrical Abuse on the Safety Characteristics of NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3O2 Cathode Sodium‐Ion Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The mechanism of capacity degradation of NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3O2 (SIBs) under mild electric abuse is revealed. The effect of mild electrical abuse on the thermal characteristics of SIBs is discussed. The degradation path of SIBs under long‐term mild electrical abuse is clarified.

Nano/Micro Metal‐Organic Framework‐Derived Porous Carbon with Rich Nitrogen Sites as Efficient Iodine Hosts for Aqueous Zinc‐Iodine Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cubic zinc‐based metal‐organic framework derived (Zn‐MOF‐derived) porous nitrogen‐doped carbon host is engineered to immobilize iodine, leveraging its hierarchical porosity and rich nitrogen sites to suppress polyiodide shuttling and enhance redox kinetics in zinc–iodine (Zn–I2) batteries.

Probing the Challenge of P‐Type Semiconductors in Long‐Chain VOC Detection: 3D Micro‐Flower Zinc Cobaltate Heterojunction Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fe@WO3/ZnCo2O4 n‐p heterojunction sensor exhibits excellent room‐temperature sensing toward tetradecane, with a low detection limit of 78.4 ppb and short recovery time. The good performance is attributed to synergistic effects from heterojunctions, heteroatom doping, oxygen vacancies, high‐energy facets, and theoretical validations.
