Modeled Subsidence of Permafrost Terrain 2025–2050: North‐Central Alaska
ABSTRACT A large fraction of the Alaska terrain is underlain by regolith that contains excess ice (ice that in volume exceeds the natural pore space). Possible loss of excess ice would lead to ground subsidence, which in turn would disturb and destabilize the ground surface.

Using extreme value analysis to enhance defendable space for fire fighters and residents
While wildland fires (bushfires) are an anticipated event with each fire season, it is important that the extent of likely annual fire weather conditions and those of more extreme conditions are identified as part of community preparations for fire ...

A challenge for wild plant conservation is the rising incidence of plant pathogens that are difficult to interdict, contain and manage. Invasive, fast‐moving, broad‐spectrum pathogens impose societal costs through losses of intrinsically valuable wild biodiversity, ecosystem function, current and potential genetic and biological assets, culturally ...

Climate‐smart land management: Greenhouse gas outcomes and social and economic pathways to adoption
Climate change poses one of the greatest threats to natural and working lands, reducing the resilience of agricultural and forest productivity. Because land management is a leading source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, climate‐smart management practices are being implemented to reduce net emissions while sustaining yields.

The functional role of ants in no‐till cropping systems
Ants provide valuable ecosystem services in tropical agriculture, but their roles in temperate row crops remain poorly understood. Conservation practices such as no‐till farming and cover cropping support ant communities that contribute to pest suppression, weed seed removal, and soil quality, which can increase crop productivity.
