FIRE SUPPRESSION AND ECOSYSTEM CARBON STORAGE [PDF]
A 35-year controlled burning experiment in Minnesota oak savanna showed that fire frequency had a great impact on ecosystem carbon (C) stores. Specifically, compared to the historical fire regime, fire suppression led to an average of 1.8 Mg·ha−1·yr−1 of C storage, with most carbon stored in woody biomass.

A review on fire suppression by fire sprinklers
Water spray remains the most effective, environment-friendly and economical way of fighting accidental or unwanted fires, and this is largely due to its thermal characteristics. The mechanism of fire suppression by sprinkler water sprays is influenced by numerous factors, which have been the focus of years’-long and on-going research studies to ...

Thermal Runaway and Fire Suppression Applications for Different Types of Lithium Ion Batteries
With the improvement of lithium-ion battery (LIB) technology, safety is becoming increasingly urgent topic for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Short circuits, overcharging, high temperatures and overheating can cause thermal runaway reactions and the ...

On the Large Eddy Simulation Modelling of Water Suppression Systems Droplet Impact and Coverage Area
In this article, a collective database from validated numerical simulation has been established to study the suppression effects of water-based suppression systems under a single-compartment fire scenario at various suppression configurations and fire ...

Local forest structure variability increases resilience to wildfire in dry western U.S. coniferous forests. [PDF]
A 'resilient' forest endures disturbance and is likely to persist. Resilience to wildfire may arise from feedback between fire behaviour and forest structure in dry forest systems.
