Aircraft Fire Detection and Suppression
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1990<div class="htmlview paragraph">A review of past and state-of-the-art aircraft fire/explosion detection and extinguishing components is presented. The lessons learned from previously fielded systems are briefly discussed so that they can be applied to the modern protection systems as they are implemented.</div> <div class="htmlview ...

Metal hydride fires and fire suppression agents
Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, 2008Most metal hydrides are pyrophoric and water-reactive. Summaries of metal hydride fire incidents are presented to illustrate ignition scenarios, threats to personnel and equipment, and fire suppression experiences. Met-L-X™, a sodium chloride-based, certified, Class D fire suppression agent, has successfully extinguished some metal hydride fires by ...

Fire modeling of an emerging fire suppression system
Journal of Chemical Health and Safety, 2014Abstract Self-contained fire extinguishers are a robust, reliable and minimally invasive means of fire suppression for gloveboxes. Test methodology has been developed (experiments and computations) to predict fire induced tube wall failure in small scale compartments such as gloveboxes.

2017
On the day the Sunshine Ski Hill in Banff National Park opened early in November 2016, temperatures skyrocketed, making it feel more like early summer than late fall. As skiers gleefully headed for the hills for the first time, wildfire specialists Cliff White and Ian Pengelly took me to the top of Sulphur Mountain, an iconic peak that provides ...

Fire suppression as a thermal implosion
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017The present paper discusses the possibility of the thermal implosion scenario. This process would be a reverse of the well known thermal explosion (autoignition) phenomenon. The mechanism for thermal implosion scenario is proposed which involves quick suppression of the turbulent diffusion flame.

4. Containing and suppressing fire
2020‘Containing and suppressing fire’ compares urban and pastoral understandings of fire. Prevention and suppression measures for one country may not be relevant in another, and even in the case of wildfires, one region may contain many different biomes, so formulating fire suppression policies can be complex.

Fire suppression in historic buildings
Journal of Building Survey, Appraisal & Valuation, 2014An account of the controversial history of fire suppression as a conservation measure in historic buildings and the increasing acceptance of its benefits in promoting life safety and reducing the damage done by fires to historic building fabric and by conventional firefighting efforts. The article also describes how sprinklers do and do not operate and

Dendritic Polymers as Fire Suppressants
1999Abstract : This report describes an evaluation of the applicability of one of the latest advances in polymer technology (dendritic polymers) to suppressing fires, one of the greatest survivability threats to military personnel and vehicles. Certain types of alkali and transition metal complexes are known to have the capability to act as fire ...
