Cloud information for FIRE from surface weather reports [PDF]
Surface weather observations of clouds were analyzed to obtain a global cloud climatology (Warren et al, 1986; 1988). The form of the synoptic weather code limits the types of cloud information which are available from these reports.

Impact of forest management regimes on ligneous regeneration in the Sudanian savanna of Burkina Faso [PDF]
Annual early fire, selective tree cutting and grazing exclusion are currently used to manage the State forests of the Sudanian savanna of Burkina Faso, West Africa. Such prescriptions, however, are not based on experimental evidence.

The impacts of biological invasions
ABSTRACT The Anthropocene is characterised by a continuous human‐mediated reshuffling of the distributions of species globally. Both intentional and unintentional introductions have resulted in numerous species being translocated beyond their native ranges, often leading to their establishment and subsequent spread – a process referred to as biological

Radiative properties of cirrus clouds inferred from broadband measurements during FIRE [PDF]
It is well known that clouds are significant modulators of weather and climate because of their effects on the radiation field and thus on the energy balance of the earth atmosphere system.

ABSTRACT Oropharyngeal food processing exhibits a remarkable diversity among vertebrates, reflecting the evolution of specialised ‘processing centres’ associated with the mandibular, hyoid, and branchial arches. Although studies have detailed various food‐processing strategies and mechanisms across vertebrates, a coherent and comprehensive terminology ...

Spatial metrics in fire ecology: seeking consistency amidst complexity
ABSTRACT Technological advances, including remote sensing, have led to a proliferation of metrics used in ecological studies to examine spatial patterns of fire regimes and their ecological effects. Researchers can use many different metrics to analyse spatial variation in both fire events and resulting fire regimes, including fire size, shape ...
