Effects of Law Enforcement Load Carriage Systems on Muscle Activity and Coordination during Walking: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Law enforcement officers (LEOs) commonly wear a duty belt (DB) or tactical vest (TV) and from prior findings, these forms of load carriage (LC) likely alter muscular activity.

Effect of the Law Enforcement Duty Belt on Muscle Activation during Hip Hinging Movements in Young, Healthy Adults

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology, 2023
Sixty percent of all law enforcement officers (LEOs) experience low back pain (LBP), with the LEO duty belt (LEODB) commonly reported to be a contributing factor. The primary purpose of the study was to investigate the LEODB’s effect on muscular activity

Firefighters under alert: psychological morbidity, empathy and alexithymia between firefighters and non-firefighters

open access: yesPSICOLOGIA, 2023
Firefighters have high exposure to traumatic events and have an increased risk of developing symptoms related to trauma. The current study assessed the psychological morbidity, empathy and alexithymia of volunteer firefighters compared to career firefighters and to non-firefighter comparators from the general population. Group differences were assessed

Firefighting on trees

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2019
In the Firefighter problem, introduced by Hartnell in 1995, a fire spreads through a graph while a player chooses which vertices to protect in order to contain it. In this paper, we focus on the case of trees and we consider as well the Fractional Firefighter game where the amount of protection allocated to a vertex lies between 0 and 1.

Maximizing vertex rescue: investigating the firefighter problem with edge subdivision

open access: yesAKCE International Journal of Graphs and Combinatorics
The firefighter problem is a game played on a connected graph where a fire breaks out at a vertex. In each round, a firefighter chooses a vertex to protect, and the fire then spreads to all unprotected neighbors of the burning vertex.
