The Gender of Fossil Fuels: Oil and Domestic Perils in Mandate Palestine
ABSTRACT This article explores the gender dynamics behind the rise of kerosene – an oil derivative – as the main domestic fuel in Mandate Palestine. It argues that these dynamics were constitutive in determining who began to use oil, where and for what purposes, in turn demonstrating that women in Palestine were the promoters and targets of a campaign ...

‘We Are the Eyes on the Streets’—Modes of Proactive Youth Outreach
ABSTRACT There is an increasing emphasis on the need for more prevention initiatives targeting the rise of mental health issues, addiction and crime in the youth population across Europe. Youth outreach work has a long‐standing tradition of working with marginalized youth; however, youth culture is dynamic, and there has been limited research in the ...

Single Line Drawing Generation via Semantics‐Driven Optimization
We present a method for automatically generating single‐line drawings in vector format, guided by a text prompt or an input image. Our approach leverages score distillation sampling to optimize the parameters of a uniform rational B‐spline (URBS) curve, ensuring that the drawing consists of a single continuous stroke by design.

Understanding and Addressing the Disruptive Impacts of Contemporary Climate Crises
Abstract Contemporary climate crises, such as wildfires, droughts, floods, and tropical storms, are increasing in frequency, intensity, scale, and duration. Organization and management scholars have been calling for more systematic study of the impacts of this increasing complexity on extant crisis governance arrangements and capacities for ...

ABSTRACT A recent raft of due diligence regulation (DDR) addressing social and environmental conditions in global value chains (GVCs) has spread across the UK and Europe. An emerging literature on DDR highlights the politics of its formation. Yet, we know little about how existing sustainability governance along GVCs interacts with DDR or the wider ...

The Firefighter Algorithm: A Hybrid Metaheuristic for Optimization Problems
This paper presents the Firefighter Optimization (FFO) algorithm as a new hybrid metaheuristic for optimization problems. This algorithm stems inspiration from the collaborative strategies often deployed by firefighters in firefighting activities. To evaluate the performance of FFO, extensive experiments were conducted, wherein the FFO was examined ...
