Interstitial Lung Disease in Firefighters: An Emerging Occupational Hazard
IntroductionOccupational risk factors for interstitial lung disease (ILD) are a remediable aspect of this progressive pulmonary disorder. The association between firefighting and ILD is unknown.

Firefighters have high exposure to traumatic events and have an increased risk of developing symptoms related to trauma. The current study assessed the psychological morbidity, empathy and alexithymia of volunteer firefighters compared to career firefighters and to non-firefighter comparators from the general population. Group differences were assessed

A molecular cage exhibits strong entropy‐driven encapsulation of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), accommodating up to four short‐chain guests as anionic aggregates. Guided by these molecular‐level insights, a novel host‐in‐host adsorbent is developed: mesoporous silica doped with 1 wt% cage achieves >98% removal of short‐ and long‐chain PFAS with full

Multi-objective Optimization of Firefighting Strategies in Process Plants
Ideal firefighting strategies at process plants would include simultaneous suppressing and cooling of all the burning and exposed units, respectively, if firefighting resources are sufficient.

3/2 Firefighters are not enough [PDF]
The firefighter problem is a monotone dynamic process in graphs that can be viewed as modeling the use of a limited supply of vaccinations to stop the spread of an epidemic.

In the Firefighter problem, introduced by Hartnell in 1995, a fire spreads through a graph while a player chooses which vertices to protect in order to contain it. In this paper, we focus on the case of trees and we consider as well the Fractional Firefighter game where the amount of protection allocated to a vertex lies between 0 and 1.

The Firefighter Problem: A Structural Analysis [PDF]
We consider the complexity of the firefighter problem where b>=1 firefighters are available at each time step. This problem is proved NP-complete even on trees of degree at most three and budget one (Finbow et al.,2007) and on trees of bounded degree b+3
