Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

Key homeobox transcription factors regulate the development of the firefly’s adult light organ and bioluminescence

open access: yesNature Communications
Adult fireflies exhibit unique flashing courtship signals, emitted by specialized light organs, which develop mostly independently from larval light organs during the pupal stage.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the firefly, Pteroptyx maipo (Coleoptera: Lampyridae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2017
We report the complete mitochondrial genome of firefly, Pteroptyx maipo. The circular genome of 16,127 bp has a base composition of A (44.22%), C (11.60%), G (8.23%) and T (35.96%).

Adaptive Fuzzy Map Approach for Accruing Velocity of Big Data Relies on Fireflies Algorithm for Decentralized Decision Making

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Velocity and volume are two important factors that affect the accuracy of streaming data during the transfer process in Big data applications. This paper presents an Adaptive Fuzzy Map Approach that Relies on Fireflies Algorithm for Accruing Velocity of ...

cAMP Signaling Enhances HIV-1 Long Terminal Repeat (LTR)-directed Transcription and Viral Replication in Bone Marrow Progenitor Cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells have been shown to be susceptible to HIV-1 infection, possibly due to a low-level expression of CXCR4, a coreceptor for HIV-1 entry.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Bioluminescence emission of the firefly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We have recorded _in vivo_ emission and time-resolved spectra of the firefly species _Pyrophorus noctilucus_. The emission spectrum shows the FWHM value for this particular species to be 55 nm, which is significantly smaller than the half widths reported
