Atmospheric‐Pressure PECVD of Organosilicon Coatings on Copper: Impact of Ethoxy and Vinyl Groups on the Corrosion Resistance Properties

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2026.
The chemistry of organosilicon precursors controls plasma polymerisation pathways, coating structure, and corrosion resistance. Among TES, TEOS, and VTEOS deposited by atmospheric‐pressure PECVD, TES produced the most compact hydrophobic coatings and delivered the highest long‐term corrosion protection of copper, highlighting a promising chromate‐free ...

Nanostructured Ti–6Al–4V Reduces Adhesion of Several Bacterial Species: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2026.
Alkaline etching transforms Ti–6Al–4V into nanostructured, highly hydrophilic surfaces with thicker oxide layers and selective alloy depletion. These physicochemical changes reduce early bacterial adhesion across multiple species by limiting effective nanoscale contact points, while osteoblast‐like cells retain good attachment and spreading.

Reconciling morphological and molecular approaches: The integrative taxonomy of Leucobryum (Leucobryaceae) in the Malagasy region

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Leucobryum (Leucobryaceae) is a genus of moss (Bryophyta) that has been poorly investigated in Africa, particularly in the western Indian Ocean region. This study integrates morphological and molecular data to revise the taxonomy of the genus in this area.

Robust Regional Contrast but Penetration‐Sensitive Snow Thickness Over Sea Ice From Multi‐Winter Antarctic CRYO2ICE Observations

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Snow on Antarctic sea ice modulates albedo, thermodynamic growth, and snow–ice formation, yet remains a leading uncertainty in altimetry‐derived sea‐ice thickness. Here we use the post‐2022 CRYO2ICE configuration to derive along‐track winter snow thickness from ICESat‐2 laser and CryoSat‐2 Ku‐band radar freeboards over the Weddell and Ross ...

A Hierarchical Organization Index for Tropical Convection Across Models and Observations

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Tropical convection often organizes into larger‐scale and longer‐lived structures, such as mesoscale convective systems and tropical cyclones (TCs). Despite its importance, most existing metrics of convective organization over a certain domain focus on spatial clustering, offering limited insight into how convective activity is partitioned ...
