First-Principles Calculations of Positron Annihilation in Solids
ABSTRACTWe present first-principles approaches based on density functional theory for calculating positron states and annihilation characteristics in condensed matter. The treatment of the electron-positron correlation effects (the enhancement of the electron density at the positron with respect to mean-field density) is shown to play a crucial role ...

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

First-principles calculation of the piezoelectric tensor d of III-V nitrides
We report direct first-principles density-functional calculations of the piezoelectric tensor $\tensor{d}$ relating polarization to applied stress for the binary compounds AlN, GaN, and InN.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Adiabatic and non-adiabatic phonon dispersion in a Wannier function approach
We develop a first-principles scheme to calculate adiabatic and non-adiabatic phonon frequencies in the full Brillouin zone. The method relies on the variational properties of a force-constants functional with respect to the first-order perturbation of ...

Calculation of isotope effects from first principles
Various means of calculating the effect of changing the mass of a given atom upon a chemical process are reviewed. Of particular interest is the deuterium isotope effect comparing the normal protium nucleus with its heavier deuterium congener. The replacement of the bridging protium in a neutral hydrogen bond such as the water dimer by a deuterium ...

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Numerical Inductance Calculations Based on First Principles
A method of calculating inductances based on first principles is presented, which has the advantage over the more popular simulators in that fundamental formulas are explicitly used so that a deeper understanding of the inductance calculation is obtained with no need for explicit discretization of the inductor.
