This study documents a set of historical graffiti in the church of the Recoletas convent in Tafalla (Navarra, Spain), dated in the 19th century. A significant portion of these exhibit military themes, linking them directly to the Third Carlist War.

The women didn’t keep out of the first carlist war, but they were also affected by it. Many of them became victims of the struggle, when they were ejected of their towns, maltreated, raped, kidnapped or killed, usually by the enemies of their husbands or relatives, that fought in that conflict.
