Larsen grades in evaluating the first carpometacarpal joint
Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology, 1999To illustrate different Larsen grades for CMC I.In the Heinola Follow-up Survey of Arthritis 103 seropositive patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were followed prospectively over 20 years. Hand radiographs were taken at onset and at 1, 3, 8, 15, and 20 years from entry.

ARTHROSCOPIC INTERPOSITION ARTHROPLASTY OF THE FIRST CARPOMETACARPAL JOINT
Journal of Hand Surgery: European Volume, 2007First carpometacarpal joint arthritis is a common condition encountered by hand surgeons. Traditionally, surgical approaches have included arthrodesis, trapeziectomy or reconstructive arthroplasty techniques. Previously, we described a technique for arthroscopic debridement and interposition arthroplasty of the first carpometacarpal joint.

Splinting in the treatment of arthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1999Although much has been written about surgical treatment of arthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint, no literature exists on splinting as a conservative treatment. One hundred fourteen patients (130 thumbs) were retrospectively reviewed to determine the efficacy of splinting.

First Carpometacarpal Joint Arthritis
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1996Trapeziectomy followed by reconstruction of the intermetacarpal ligament using a small slip of extensor carpi radialis longus tendon and a wide slip of flexor carpi radialis for tendon interposition (group A) is compared with trapeziectomy followed by palmaris longus tendon interposition (group B). Group A included 11 hands in nine patients.

The By-Pass operation for arthritis at the first carpometacarpal joint
Hand, 1976The By-Pass operation provides a less destructive alternative to arthroplasty or arthrodesis for fixation of the first carpometacarpal joint.

Osteoarthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint.
California medicine, 1968The first carpometacarpal (trapeziometacarpal) joints are a frequent site of osteoarthritis in postmenopausal women. This osteoarthritis, which is typically bilateral both clinically and roentgenographically, may be mistaken for tenosynovitis unless its characteristic features are recognized.

A technique for arthroscopic evaluation of the first carpometacarpal joint
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1997Arthroscopy of the first carpometacarpal joint has been developed as a reliable surgical procedure offering an opportunity for direct evaluation of the joint's intra-articular status, with minimal morbidity to the joint capsule. The procedure uses a 1.9-mm short barrel arthroscope with standard supportive electronic equipment. After adequate anesthesia

Wagner Approach for First Carpometacarpal Joint Denervation
Techniques in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery, 2012First carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis is one of the most common conditions hand surgeons have to deal with. In this article, a more radical technique for joint denervation is presented as a treatment for painful degenerative or posttraumatic osteoarthritis.

In vivo kinematics of the first carpometacarpal joint after trapezectomy
Chirurgie de la Main, 2011First carpometacarpal osteoarthitis is frequent and surgery may be necessary if medical treatment is not efficient. Trapeziometacarpal arthroplasty, trapeziometacarpal arthrodesis and trapezectomy may be proposed. These surgical solutions may modify the carpometacarpal kinematics of the thumb.

Local anaesthesia for first carpometacarpal joint arthroplasty
European Journal of Plastic Surgery, 1993A simple method of local subcutaneous anaesthesia for the surgical treatment of the first carpometacarpal joint (CMC-1) osteoarthritis is described. The first carpometacarpal joint arthroplasty is performed under local anaesthesia. The choice of the procedure depends upon each individual case.
