Chondrosarcoma of the first metatarsal

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1983
AbstractChondrosarcoma of the first metatarsal was observed in an 84‐year‐old man. Chondrosarcoma of the small bones of the foot is comparatively rare. These tumors generally arise de novo rather than from a preexisting benign cartilage lesion. Pedal chondrosarcoma presents as a painful enlarging mass. Radiographs show lytic destruction of bone with or

Principles of first metatarsal osteotomies

Foot and Ankle Clinics, 2001
Summarizing all the data while choosing the suitable procedure for hallux valgus deformity leads to classification of 3 main categories, which are based on the intermetatarsal angle (Table 1). Mild deformity has less than 15 degrees intermetatarsal angle, intermediate deformity has 15 degrees to 20 degrees intermetatarsal angle, and severe deformity ...

Hallux, Sesamoid, and First Metatarsal Injuries

Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, 2011
Hallux, sesamoid, and first metatarsal injuries are common foot injuries and have implications in the biomechanical functionality of the first ray and foot. They are essential for propulsion in normal gait. As part of the first ray, it is an important contributor to normal locomotion.

Osteochondritis of the first metatarsal sesamoids

Archives of Orthopaedic and Traumatic Surgery, 1988
Osteochondritis of the sesamoids of the hallux is an infrequently presenting condition of uncertain etiology. The diagnosis is usually established by the typical clinical presentation, fragmentation of the affected sesamoid seen on the axial-view radiogram and increased uptake on the 99mTc bone scan.

Osteochondritis of the First Metatarsal Epiphysis

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 1990
Two cases of painful osteochondritis of the basal epiphysis of the first metatarsal are described. Complete resolution without deformity was achieved in both patients. We suggest that this condition be considered in the differential diagnosis of transitory foot pain in childhood.

Thermal Properties of First Metatarsal Osteotomies

The Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2009
Heat is generated whenever osteotomies are created, Kirschner wires are inserted, holes are drilled, and when bone is reduced with a burr. Although previous investigators have determined the combination of time and temperature necessary to cause bone injury, to our knowledge, no one has yet specifically studied whether the heat generated when ...

[Rheumatoid metatarsals, original development of the first metatarsals].

Revue du rhumatisme et des maladies osteo-articulaires, 1992
Weight-bearing roentgenograms of 308 feet of rheumatoid arthritis patients were analyzed. Several angles were determined, including the metatarsus primus adductus angle (between the first and second metatarsals, > or = 10 degrees) and the forefoot spread angle (between the first and fifth metatarsals, > or = 30 degrees).

Distal First Metatarsal Osteotomy

2012
More than 150 operations have been described for the management of hallux valgus. The multitude of techniques indicates that no single operation can be considered as “the standard,” and none will address all the components of the deformity in all patients. Poorly planned or executed surgery may lead to high levels of patient dissatisfaction. One of the
