Ghost fishing impacts on hydrocorals and associated reef fish assemblages

Marine Environmental Research, 2020
Ghost fishing is a threat to many marine environments, as lost or discarded fishing gear (e.g., fishing lines, nets) continues to fish by entangling, damaging or killing various organisms. Among the benthic organisms that live on tropical reefs, the group probably most affected, due to their shape, are the branching corals. These corals provide refuge,

Fish Assemblage Responses to Forest Cover

Environmental Management, 2007
We investigated whether fish assemblage structure in southern Appalachian streams differed with historical and contemporary forest cover. We compared fish assemblages in 2(nd)-4(th) order streams draining watersheds that had increased forest cover between 1950 and 1993 (i.e., reforesting watersheds).

New Zealand Demersal Fish Assemblages

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2002
Demersal fish assemblages in the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone were identified using presence–absence data from 19 215 bottom trawl tows made over a 37-year period. The dataset spanned latitudes 34–54°S and depths of 4–1500 m. A total of 123 taxa occurred in more than 1% of the tows (121 fish and 2 squid).

Fish assemblage recovery and persistence

Ecology of Freshwater Fish, 2004
Abstract –  Fish assemblages from a historical (1968) pre‐impoundment survey of the Bear Creek system (Tennessee River drainage) were compared with fish assemblages from recent collections to examine spatial recovery in stream fish assemblages. A positive relationship was present for species richness and distance from impoundment for recent collections

Ecology and Biology of Fish Assemblages

2021
In this chapter we summarize the current state of knowledge regarding the assemblages of fish species inhabiting the waters of Bahia Blanca Estuary. We begin by exploring the diversity of habitats and resources available for fish species and then describe the different guilds of fish present in the estuary, based on historical data collections and ...

Climatic influence on a marine fish assemblage

Nature, 2002
Understanding the fluctuations in marine fish stocks is important for the management of fisheries, and attempts have been made to demonstrate links with oceanographic and climatic variability, including the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). The NAO has been correlated with a range of long-term ecological measures, including certain fish stocks.

Influence of Algal Farming on Fish Assemblages

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2001
We examined the influence of algal farming on fish assemblages in two shallow coastal lagoons in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Fish assemblages were visually investigated using a belt transect method and the line-intercept technique was used to examine the substrate composition. 101 species of fish belonging to 31 families were recorded.
