Using Catch Statistics to Investigate Effects of Seismic Activity on Fish Catch Rates
2012Norway has been a petroleum nation for several decades, with most of its offshore activities originally concentrated in the North Sea. As these reserves diminish, focus is shifting to areas further north, some of which, particularly the Lofoten/Vesteralen area, are crucial for the reproduction of major fish stocks such as Gadus morhua (northeastern ...

Richness of Common Names of Brazilian Marine Fishes and Its Effect on Catch Statistics
Journal of Ethnobiology, 2005The richness of common names of Brazilian marine fishes was studied based on a sample of 725 species, covering 67% of all marine fishes recorded in Brazil. The richness of names is considerable (mean = six common names per species) and is positively related to commercial importance and habitat type, with more names associated with exploited or reef ...

To assess the ecological integrity of lakes according to the European Water Framework Directive, the present status of fish assemblages has to be compared to a type-specific reference status. Monitoring fish assemblages by standardized fish sampling surveys as recommended for smaller lakes can be performed in large lakes only by an extraordinarily high
