Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Current state for stocks and fishery of saffron cod Eleginus gracilis (Tilesius, 1810) in the western Bering Sea

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО
State of stocks and fishery and some general features of biology are considered for saffron cod in the Bering Sea on results of bottom trawl surveys and commercial fishery statistics in 2000–2023. In 2023, the stock in the southwestern part of the sea is

Winter and summer differences in probability of fish encounter (spatial overlap) with MHK devices

open access: yesInternational Marine Energy Journal, 2018
The likelihood of fish encountering an MHK device, and therefore the risk posed to fish, depends largely on the natural distribution of fish at tidal energy development sites.

Using poststratification to improve abundance estimates from multispecies surveys: a study of juvenile flatfishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Population assessments seldom incorporate habitat information or use previously observed distributions of fish density. Because habitat affects the spatial distribution of fish density and overall abundance, the use of habitat information and previous ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

New records of Endangered Slender Walking Catfish, Clarias pseudonieuhofii Sudarto, Teugels & Pouyaud, 2004 (Siluriformes, Clariidae) from Central Mahakam River, East Kalimantan, Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List
Clariidae, commonly referred as air-breathing or walking catfishes, are a family of catfish distributed in Africa, Asia Minor, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. Some species are highly valuable as food fish.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.
