Use of high resolution sonar for near-turbine fish observations (DIDSON) - We@Sea 2007-002 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this study we investigate small scale distribution of pelagic fish within a windfarm by means of a high resolution sonar (DIDSON, Dual frequency IDentification SONar; Soundmetrics).

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND ECOLOGY OF EELPOUT LYCODES BRASHNIKOVI (ZOARCIDAE) AT THE WESTERN COAST OF KAMCHATKA IN SUMMER SEASON

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2019
Eelpout Lycodes brashnikovi is a common species of bottom ichthyofauna in the waters at West Kamchatka. It distributes through the whole surveyed area, with sporadic dense aggregations at the depths of 50–150 and 200–300 m.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Using poststratification to improve abundance estimates from multispecies surveys: a study of juvenile flatfishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Population assessments seldom incorporate habitat information or use previously observed distributions of fish density. Because habitat affects the spatial distribution of fish density and overall abundance, the use of habitat information and previous ...

Length at First Maturity, Spawning TIME, and Reproductive Output in the Females of Hamilton\u27s Anchovy (Thryssa Hamiltonii Gray, 1835) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The Hamilton\u27s anchovy (Thryssa hamiltonii Gray, 1835) is one of main target species in Indonesian small pelagic fishery. This engraulids member is characterized by short lifespan and fast reproductive cycle.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

On feeding migrations of saury in the North-West Pacific Ocean

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2017
General patterns of the pacific saury feeding migrations in the North-West Pacific are determined on results of fishing operations conducted by a group of Russian fishery vessels in June-November, 2014.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Evaluating How Growth and Diet of Native Freshwater Fishes Change in Response to Salinity and pH in a Semi-Arid Landscape

open access: yesFishes
Freshwater ecosystems are increasingly stressed by drought and anthropogenic inputs that can increase specific conductivity (SPC) and pH; however, little is known about how harsher conditions affect fish. We evaluated how fish growth and diet composition
