Pathogenic characterization of Aeromonas in infected farmed Esox lucius from Xinjiang, China

open access: yesAll Life
This study aimed to identify the pathogenic bacterial characteristics associated with diseased Esox lucius. The bacterial 16S rRNA V3–V4 variable region was used to generate high-throughput sequencing data from fish organs with significant lesions ...

Examine the contamination of Epinephelus coioides with Listeria and Salmonella bacteria in Khuzestan coastal zone

open access: yesEnvironment Conservation Journal, 2015
Listeria and Salmonella species are high risk for human through contaminated foods; these bacteria are psychrophilic and could grow at low temperature even at refrigerator.

Flavanol monomer-induced changes to the human faecal microflora [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have investigated the bacterial-dependent metabolism of ( − )-epicatechin and (+)-catechin using a pH-controlled, stirred, batch-culture fermentation system reflective of the distal region of the human large intestine.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Bacterial flora associated with diseased freshwater ornamental fish

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2017
Introduction: Ornamental fish can suffer from different bacterial diseases. Among them the most prevalent are infections caused by Aeromonas, Shewanella, Citrobacter, Plesiomonas, Edwardsiella, and Pseudomonas.

Lead, silver nitrate and antibiotic resistance in bacteria isolated from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in anthropogenically polluted Lake Chivero, Zimbabwe

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture, 2022
Antibiotic and heavy metal-resistant pathogenic bacteria associated with fish from contaminated water can spread diseases. This study aims to identify antibiotics, lead, and silver nitrate-resistant bacteria in 180 fish samples from Lake Chivero using ...

Mechanism of action of probiotics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The modern diet doesn't provide the required amount of beneficial bacteria. Maintenance of a proper microbial ecology in the host is the main criteria to be met for a healthy growth.

Indole contributes to tetracycline resistance via the outer membrane protein OmpN in Vibrio splendidus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
As an interspecies and interkingdom signaling molecule, indole has recently received attention for its diverse effects on the physiology of both bacteria and hosts. In this study, indole increased the tetracycline resistance of Vibrio splendidus.

Incidence of indicator organisms, opportunistic and pathogenic bacteria in fish

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development, 2010
Fish is an excellent source of high quality protein; however, it is susceptible to microbial spoilage. Fish carries high microbial load on the surface of the skin, in the intestine and in the gills. In Botswana, fishermen catch fish and sell their products in the open market.
