Vegetation Effects on Fish Distribution in Impounded Salt Marshes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We compared the density and biomass of resident fish in vegetated and unvegetated flooded habitats of impounded salt marshes in the northern Indian River Lagoon (IRL) Estuary of east-central Florida.

Stream fishes and desirable fish stocks

open access: yes, 2006
Freshwater fi sh communities have always been valuable resourcesfor society, particularly the species that migrate betweenfreshwater and the sea. Historically, eel, salmon and trout wereso abundant that good fi shing luck could turn a capable fi shermaninto a wealthy person.

Selective Separation of the Rare Earth Elements Dysprosium and Neodymium via Tailoring Nanocellulose Chemical Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dicarboxylate‐modified anionic hairy cellulose nanocrystals exhibit a high selectivity for dysprosium(III) over neodymium(III). This selectivity arises from disordered dicarboxylate cellulose “hairs” that enable cooperative ionic coordination, hydrogen bonding, and strain‐induced conformational shrinkage.

Unveiling Multidimensional Physicochemical Design Principles for Tissue Processing Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study establishes a materials‐based design framework for polymer hydrogels in tissue clearing, linking physicochemical properties to performance in tissue processing, labeling, and imaging. By analyzing rheology, swelling, porosity, antibody diffusion, mechanical performance, and thermochemical stability across platforms, this work provides a ...

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Management Options for the Inland Fisheries Resource in South Sumatra, Indonesia: I Bioeconomic Model [PDF]

open access: yes
The inland fishery in South Sumatra, Indonesia, is an important source of income, employment and protein to small-scale fishers. Some overall indicators, such as virtual disappearance of certain important species and continuous reduction in the size of ...

Fish stock assessment

open access: yes, 2001
Fisheries are based on stocks of wild animals living in their natural environment stock is a sub-set of one species having the same growth and mortality parameters, and inhabiting a particular geographic area and has little connection with adjacent groups.

Dual‐Layer Living Hydrogel Enables On‐Demand Delivery of Phages and Probiotics for Synergistic Wound Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer living hydrogel, ProΦGel, integrates bacteriophages and probiotics for synergistic wound infection therapy. The outer gelatin‐based matrix releases phages on demand in response to P. aeruginosa infections, while inner alginate beads sustain probiotic delivery.

A Stackelberg Analysis of the Potential for Cooperation in Straddling Stock Fisheries [PDF]

open access: yes
To ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of straddling fish stocks, the 1995 United Nations Fish Stock Agreement calls for the establishment of regional fisheries management organizations to manage them. This article studies the potential
