Combining sale records of landings and fishers knowledge for predicting metiers in a small-scale, multi-gear, multispecies fishery [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fisheries Research, Volume 195, November 2017, Pages 59-70, 2019
Stock management should be guided by assessment models that, among others, need to be fed by reliable data of catch and effort. However, precise data are difficult to obtain in heterogeneous fisheries. Specifically, small scale, multi gear, multispecies fisheries are dynamic systems where fishers may lively change fishing strategy conditioned by ...

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

The shape of fisheries to come. Some thoughts on fisheries development and education with special reference to aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
A brief discussion is presented on the current situation regarding world fisheries and the future role of aquaculture. The various components involved in fisheries, and affecting all changes in fisheries through time, include the biology of the species ...

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Viewpoint: Back to the future for fisheries, where will we choose to go?

open access: yesGlobal Sustainability, 2019
We present a view on global marine fisheries that emphasizes mitigating the conflict between sustainability and the scale of industrial exploitation driven by the demand of continuous economic growth.

Community Fisheries Development Office (CFDO) strategic plan, January 2004 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In October 2000 the government of Cambodia announced a major change in fisheries management policy. The core elements of the new policy are the reduction of fishing lot concession areas by 56%, the broader participation of fishing communities in the ...

Bioeconomic analysis of harvesting within a predator-prey system: A case study in the Chesapeake Bay fisheries [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Sustainable use of biological resources is very important as over exploitation on the long run may lead to stock depletion, which in turn may threaten biodiversity. The Chesapeake Bay is an extremely complex ecosystem, and sustainable harvesting of its fisheries is essential both for the ecosystem's biodiversity and economic prosperity of the area ...

Distinct dysregulated pathways in sporadic and Lynch syndrome‐associated colorectal cancer offer insights for targeted treatment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study explores the distinct molecular mechanisms underlying Lynch syndrome‐associated and sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). By highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting the PI3K‐Akt pathway in Lynch syndrome‐associated CRC and the Wnt pathway in sporadic CRC, the findings open avenues for personalised treatment strategies, aiming to ...

Illuminating divergence in perceptions in natural resource management: A case for the investigation of the heterogeneity in mental models

open access: yesJournal of Dynamic Decision Making, 2018
Much research has been dedicated to map mental models of natural resources to aid effective management of the natural resource. The variety of approaches result in a variety of outputs, but most research in this domain reports mental models that have ...
