Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Effective governance of marine recreational fisheries in Europe is needed to maximize the societal benefits of its fisheries

open access: yesICES Journal of Marine Science
Marine recreational fishing (MRF) is a socially and economically relevant fishing activity in Europe, but its impacts on ecosystems and the economy remain poorly understood, and management is limited. This paper evaluates the current European fisheries

Marine fisheries along the southwest coast of India [PDF]

open access: yes
Marine fisheries production in India has increased from 0.5 million t in 1950 to 2.47 million t in 1997. The gross value of fisheries landings in India was US$2.37 billion in 1997.

A legal bottleneck blocking EU marine protection

open access: yesnpj Ocean Sustainability
The EU’s goal of 10% strict marine protection is unlikely to succeed without fisheries regulation in offshore MPAs. Yet this depends on Article 11 of the Common Fisheries Policy – an overlooked legal mechanism that has struggled to deliver fisheries ...

A Closer Look at Seabird and Marine Mammal Bycatch Data in Alaska’s Longline Groundfish and Pacific Halibut Fisheries: A Reassessment with Open Access and Machine Learning Ensembles Explicit in Space and Time Shows Deficiencies

open access: yesData Science Journal
Bycatch, the capture of non-target species during fishing operations, causes significant ecological, physical, and socio-economic impacts. Despite widespread Open Access policies worldwide, effective bycatch assessment using Open Access data remains ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Is Understanding ‘Fish as Food’ Enough? Reclaiming Power and Politics in Aquatic Food Research and Policy

open access: yesGeo: Geography and Environment
Fish are an important source of food, livelihood and culture for millions of people worldwide. Yet, policy, research and fisheries management paradigms have not often recognised fish as food.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Can we be both resilient and well, and what choices do people have? Incorporating agency into the resilience debate from a fisheries perspective.

open access: yes, 2012
In the midst of a global fisheries crisis, there has been great interest in the fostering of adaptation and resilience in fisheries, as a means to reduce vulnerability and improve the capacity of fishing society to adapt to change.
