Skeletal pathologies in extant crocodilians as a window into the paleopathology of fossil archosaurs
Abstract Crocodilians, together with birds, are the only extant relatives to many extinct archosaur groups, making them highly important for interpreting paleopathological conditions in a phylogenetic disease bracketing model. Despite this, comprehensive data on osteopathologies in crocodilians remain scarce.

Patterns of spinal motion, kinematic spaces and the land‐to‐sea transition in carnivorans
Using 3D reconstructions, we quantify intervertebral joint mobility to investigate how cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebral regions evolved distinct kinematic roles in pinnipeds. The findings reveal lineage‐specific adaptations for swimming and highlight the functional significance of vertebral joint flexibility in ecological transitions.

Abstract An exquisitely preserved, isolated partial petrosal with associated fragmentary stapes is described from the Vastan Lignite Mine (Gujarat, India), dated to the early Eocene (~54.5 Ma). Several anatomical traits (e.g., large petrosal plate; posterolateral entry of the internal carotid artery to the tympanic cavity; bony tubes surrounding the ...

Elasmobranch Fisheries, Biodiversity, and Landing-Site Characteristics in the Gulf of Sirte, Libya
The Libyan coastline extends for nearly 2,000 km and hosts diverse marine habitats that support numerous vulnerable elasmobranch species. This study provides the first integrative assessment of artisanal fisheries targeting cartilaginous fishes in the Gulf of Sirte, central Libya.

Drivers of tail evolution in squamates and their implications for the fossorial origin of snakes
Abstract The axial skeleton serves as the primary structural support in all vertebrates and is subdivided into five distinct regions: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and caudal. Relaxation of constraints acting on the terminal end of the axial skeleton has led to remarkable variation in caudal vertebrae number across Squamata.

The economics of a landing obligation:short term impacts for the Danish fishery of implementing the EU landing obligation [PDF]
By 2015 The European Common Fisheries Policy Reform includes a landing obligation in some fisheries and over the next few years all EU fisheries will be facing the obligation to land all catches. In spite of that, there is a lack of theoretical as well as empirical analyses of the consequences of a landing obligation.

Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Postnatal craniomandibular growth in Harbor seals (Phoca vitulina vitulina)
Postnatal ontogeny in Harbor seals (Phoca vitulina vitulina). Cranium and mandible grow rapidly until 5 years of age, followed by a deceleration and finally a stagnation. Abstract As secondarily aquatic carnivores, seals display several phenotypic differences compared to their terrestrial relatives.

Seven‐year surveillance reveals a cold‐adapted OsHV‐1 lineage in blood clams, with disease onset at 13°C—3–5°C lower than in oysters—and identifies asymptomatic carriers and facility effluent as key transmission routes. ABSTRACT Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV‐1) poses a major threat to bivalve aquaculture, but its impact on blood clams (Anadara ...
