2020This chapter analyses select national policy fields, demonstrating increased market liberalism in the Danish agricultural sector and in the fisheries sector. Policies aimed at reducing nitrogen leaching from farmland are shifting from reliance on universal measures to more emphasis on site-specific regulation.

The second sentence of the section of the Treaty of Rome dealing with the Common Agricultural Policy declares that ‘Agricultural products shall mean the products of the soil, of stock-breeding and of fisheries.’ The inclusion of fisheries is not entirely illogical, since the industry shares many of the basic attributes of agriculture.

1994Establishing property rights on resources is crucial for their rational and efficient utilization. A resource which is owned by nobody is open to misuse. If no one owns trees, then no one will have wealth incentive to preserve them until they are mature and ready for felling.
