Optimal placement of Marine Protected Areas [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Overfishing can lead to the reduction or elimination of fish populations and the degradation or even destruction of their habitats. This can be prevented by introducing Marine Protected Areas (MPA's), regions in the ocean or along coastlines where fishing is controlled.

Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

Chromosome-level genome assembly of Triplophysa bombifrons using PacBio HiFi sequencing and Hi-C technologies

open access: yesScientific Data
Triplophysa bombifrons, a species of bony fish localized in China, has largely been understudied genetically, with limited data available beyond its mitochondrial genome. This study introduces a chromosome-level genome assembly for T.

Speciation in Freshwater Fishes

open access: yes, 2014
The extraordinary species richness of freshwater fishes has attracted much research on mechanisms and modes of speciation. We here review research on speciation in freshwater fishes in light of speciation theory, and place this in a context of broad ...

The PTTG1/VASP axis promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis by modulating focal adhesion and actin filaments

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.

Obesity alters the fitness of peritumoral adipose tissue, exacerbating tumor invasiveness in renal cancer through the induction of ADAM12 and CYP1B1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...
