Comparative Study of Open Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy versus Closed Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy in Fissure in Ano

open access: yesIndian Journal of Colo-Rectal Surgery, 2022
Background: Among many treatment modalities for a chronic anal fissure, lateral internal sphincterotomy remains the first line of treatment. It is performed by the closed and open methods. Until now, no definitive guidelines have been shown on the choice

WOUNDS IN UTOPIA: The Politics of Gay Football in 4T Mexico

open access: yesCultural Anthropology, Volume 41, Issue 2, Page 321-346, May 2026.
ABSTRACT LGBT+ football teams have proliferated in Mexico in recent years, allowing communities who previously struggled with feeling at the margins of the nation to make new claims to respectability and national belonging. At the same time, these have developed surprising alliances with political parties, blurring in some cases the relationships of ...

The conservative treatment of fissure-in-ano

open access: yesJournal of British Surgery, 1983
Abstract A randomized clinical trial assessed the value of regular anal dilatation in combination with a topical local anaesthetic in the treatment of 82 patients with a posterior fissure-in-ano. One month after treatment the fissure had healed in 43·6 per cent of patients using 2 per cent lignocaine gel alone and in 41·9 per cent of ...

The Dynamic Energy Band Model of Contact‐Separation and Sliding Mode Triboelectric Charging of Polymers at the Metal‐Polymer Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 21, 13 April 2026.
Triboelectric charge generation at polymer‐metal interfaces arises from the interplay of polymer mechanochemistry, polymer physical properties, and material transfer, where ion‐derived dipoles modulate the interfacial potential and mechanochemically generated electronic states and work function differences drive electron transfer, providing a unified ...

Evaluating the Diagnostic Utility of Spinal Ultrasound in Neonates With a Simple Sacral Dimple: An Eight‐Year Retrospective Study

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 73, Issue S2, Page S73-S80, April 2026.
This study retrospectively analysed eight years of neonatal spinal ultrasound data from a major Australian children's hospital to assess the value of imaging for simple sacral dimples. Out of 448 scans, 195 were for an isolated simple dimple, and only two infants (1%) were found to have spinal dysraphism, both with other congenital anomalies.

The Nonadiabatic Nature of the Substituent Effects in Azobenzene

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 14, 27 March 2026.
Unified nonadiabatic switching: thermal Z→E isomerization of para‐substituted azobenzenes proceeds through a single nonadiabatic rotational pathway. The iconic bell‐shaped Hammett plot is a σp artifact, not a reflection of a mechanistic change, exposing the limits of single‐reference density functional theory (DFT) and establishing activation entropy ...

Recurrent Constellations of Embryonic Malformations (RCEM): Teratogenicity Linked to Transient Hypoxia and Hormone Pregnancy Tests Agrees With RCEM and Suggest a Reactive Oxygen Species Pathogenesis

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 118, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background No consistent genetic etiology has been found for a group of six different conditions in humans with multiple malformations called “recurrent constellations of embryonic malformations” (RCEM). Recent studies indicate hypoxia/reoxygenation and generation Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) as an underlying mechanism for RCEM with the ...

Osteology of the Feeding Apparatus of Chilean Flamingo Phoenicopterus chilensis (Aves: Phoenicopteridae)

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 3, March 2026.
1. The skull features a broad, dorsoventrally flattened frontal region articulating with an elongated upper jaw that is complemented by the mandible's downward bend along its proximal half. 2. The low mechanical advantage in the mandible is attributed to the reduced and shallow insertion areas of the adductor muscles, which are positioned close to the ...
