Fissurectomy with superficial midline sphincterotomy

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1984
A series of 121 patients with chronic fissure-in-ano who underwent fissurectomy with superficial midline sphincterotomy was studied. The mean follow-up was 8.1 years. Minor problems with anal competence occurred after the operation in 30 patients (25 per cent). Within two months, this problem had resolved in all patients. One patient (0.8 per cent) had

Fissurectomy combined with botulinum toxin A injection for medically resistant chronic anal fissures

Colorectal Disease, 2010
AbstractIntroduction  Chemical sphincterotomy, the use of pharmacological agents to reduce anal sphincter resting pressure, has become more and more popular in the treatment of chronic anal fissures (CAFs). It offers the possibility to avoid a lateral internal sphincterotomy and its associated risk of incontinence.

A Comparison Between the Results of Fissurectomy and Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy in the Surgical Management of Chronic Anal Fissure

Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2009
We compare lateral internal sphincterotomy as an effective treatment of chronic fissure in ano to fissurectomy, which is as an alternative surgical treatment.Sixty two consecutive patients were divided into two groups through sequential sampling. Thirty patients underwent fissurectomy and 32 underwent lateral internal sphincterotomy.

The Long-Term Efficacy of Fissurectomy and Botulinum Toxin Injection for Chronic Anal Fissure in Females

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 2008
Healing rates for botulinum toxin injection for anal fissure may be improved if combined with fissurectomy. This procedure has a decreased risk of incontinence, which is particularly important in females. We investigated the long-term efficacy of fissurectomy and botulinum toxin injection for chronic resistant fissures in females.Female patients who ...

Anal Stretch Plus Fissurectomy for Chronic Anal Fissure

Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2013
Anal fissure is a common disease. Usually chronic anal fissures are managed medically. When conservative management fails, surgical treatment should be considered. Lateral internal sphincterotomy has been advocated as the first choice invasive treatment but it has a reported rate of major fecal incontinence of 5%.

Fissurectomy as a treatment for anal fissures in children.

Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, 2000
Anal fissures, characterised by painful defecation and rectal bleeding, are common in both children and infants. A significant proportion are resistant to simple laxative therapy, and no simple surgical treatment has been described which does not risk compromising sphincteric function.

Botulinum Toxin A with Fissurectomy is a Viable Alternative to Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy for Chronic Anal Fissure

The American Surgeon™, 2009
Lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) is the gold standard surgical treatment for anal fissure. However, it carries potential complications, including fecal incontinence. The goal of this retrospective study was to compare the outcome of botulinum toxin A injection coupled with fissurectomy ([BTX + FIS) versus LIS.

Fissurectomy-Botulinum Toxin: A Novel Sphincter-Sparing Procedure for Medically Resistant Chronic Anal Fissure

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 2004
Botulinum toxin heals only approximately one-half of glyceryl trinitrate-resistant chronic anal fissures, perhaps because chemical sphincterotomy alone treats internal sphincter spasm but not chronic fissure fibrosis. We aimed to assess whether a novel procedure, fissurectomy-botulinum toxin, improves the healing rate of medically resistant fissures ...

Effectiveness of combined botulinum toxin and fissurectomy on chronic anal fissures – a systematic review

ANZ Journal of Surgery
AbstractBackgroundAnal fissures are a debilitating benign condition, thought to be due to the hypertonicity of the internal anal sphincter resulting in localized ischaemia inhibiting healing. There are several surgical and non‐surgical treatment options for chronic anal fissures. Clinical practice surveys report a trend toward sphincter‐sparing options,
