Local toolpath smoothing for five-axis machine tools

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2015
Abstract When five axis CNC machine tools follow series linear toolpath segments, the drives experience velocity, acceleration and jerk discontinuities at the block transition points. The discontinuities result in fluctuations on machine tool motions which lead to poor surface quality.

A Machining Test to Reflect Dynamic Machining Accuracy of Five-Axis Machine Tools

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
NAS (National Aerospace Standard) 979 is the only standard well known in industry describing a five-axis machining test for measuring kinematic errors of five-axis machine tools. As it cannot reflect the tool path characteristics of typical ruled surface machining, five-axis machine tools which passed the NAS test may not have the ability to satisfy ...

Five-axis CNC machine tool contour error control method

Proceedings of the 2019 International Conference on Robotics, Intelligent Control and Artificial Intelligence, 2019
In the five-axis CNC machining, various errors caused by factors such as geometrical accuracy and dynamic characteristics of the machine tool will eventually appear as the contour error of the part. Therefore, controlling and compensating for contour errors is of great significance.

Tool path generation for five-axis machining of blisks with barrel cutters

International Journal of Production Research, 2018
A barrel cutter has a cutting segment with a large radius on its profile, and this arc segment allows the cutter to tilt away from the part surface, avoiding the collisions of the tool with the par...

Tool Path Planning and Machining Experiment for a Centrifugal Impeller Based on Five-Axis Machine Tool

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
An impeller is the core of aviation engine components, the processing quality have a decisive impact on the performance of the engine. An impeller is one of most important basic components of centrifugal compressor. However, it is very difficult to machine and model because of the twisted blades.

Developing a postprocessor for three types of five-axis machine tools

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 1997
This paper presents a postprocessor capable of converting cutter location (CL) data to machine control data for three typical five-axis machine tools to establish an interface between computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems and numerically controlled (NC) machines.

Determining a collision-free domain for the tool in five-axis machining

International Journal of Production Research, 2004
The present paper considers correction of global collisions of a milling cutter on end milling of free-form surfaces on five-axis numerical controlled machine tools. Global collision refers to the collision of the cutter body with the part surfaces and the machine parts.
