SPHINX31 acts as a SRPK1 inhibitor targeting the ATR/DNA‐PKcs/CHK1 replicative checkpoint to inhibit cell growth in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The kinase SRPK1 directly interacts with the protein TOPBP1 and regulates the pre‐mRNA splicing of WIZ thereby contributing to the activation of the ATR/CHK1 replicative checkpoint in response to replicative stress. This allows cancer cells' genomic stability and survival.

Targeting the EpCAM‐AXL axis to overcome drug resistance in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells often evade therapy by hijacking signaling pathways. We reveal that cleaved EpCAM (sEpCAM) stabilizes the oncogenic protein AXL, driving NF‐κB and STAT3‐mediated chemoresistance. This EpCAM‐AXL axis identifies a high‐risk patient subset with poor prognosis.

Using E-Z reader to examine the consequences of fixation-location measurement error

open access: yes, 2015
There is an ongoing debate about whether fixation durations during reading are only influenced by the processing difficulty of the words being fixated (i.e., the serial-attention hypothesis) or whether they are also influenced by the processing ...

Biomechanical Comparison of 3 Syndesmosis Repair Techniques With Suture Button Implants

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2018
Background: Suture button fixation of syndesmotic injury is growing in popularity, as it has been shown to provide adequate stability in a more cost-effective manner than screw fixation while allowing more physiologic distal tibiofibular joint motion ...

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Segmental Stiffness Achieved by Three Types of Fixation for Unstable Lumbar Spondylolytic Motion Segments

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2012
Objective The objective of this study was to compare the relative stability in lumbar spondylolysis (SP) of a rigid anterior plate (with a novel compression slot) versus traditional posterior pedicle screw (PS) fixation.

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Fixation Stability in Monkeys with Strabismus

open access: yes, 2013
Purpose: To assess the effect of target parameters on fixation stability in strabismic monkeys. Methods: Eye movements were recorded in one normal and three strabismic monkeys during 72 fixation conditions (4 shapes; 3 sizes; 2 backgrounds; OD, OS or OU ...

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Locking plates for distal femur fractures does an increased working length improve healing? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references.Distal femur locking plates have become a very popular means of internal fixation because of their ability to provide stable distal periarticular fixation.
