Dispersion in fixed beds

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1985
A macroscopic equation of mass conservation is obtained by ensemble-averaging the basic conservation laws in a porous medium. In the long-time limit this ‘macro-transport’ equation takes the form of a macroscopic Fick's law with a constant effective diffusivity tensor.

Modelling and solving fixed‐bed adsorption

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 1993
AbstractIn this paper we develop a mathematical model for packed‐bed adsorption of a single component, directed toward the purification of β‐lactamic antibiotics. The model describes the removal of sorbates from an aqueous stream entering a bed packed with spherical sorbent particles.

Fixed bed reactors

Catalysis Today, 1999
Abstract The present paper presents the phenomena occurring in fixed bed reactors spanning, from the small scale of single pellet, where reaction and diffusion are competing, to the macroscale of whole apparatus, where dispersion and heat transfer play an important role; the most important models used in describing the behaviour of fixed bed reactors

Pressure drop in fixed-bed adsorbers

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2001
Abstract The effect of pressure drop on the dynamic behavior of a fixed-bed adsorber during adsorption and desorption steps is studied for two operating modes (constant volume and molar flow rate at the bed inlet). For saturation with a constant volume flow rate, neglecting pressure drop gives rise to a late breakthrough for the concentration wave ...

Desorption of a fixed-bed adsorber by ultrasound

Ultrasonics, 2002
Adsorption processes offer the possibility to remove trace impurities of liquid process streams. An important step in adsorption processes is the regeneration of the adsorbent as it does not only affect the adsorption-desorption cycle but also the expenses of the following process steps.

Fixed Bed Pyrolysis of the Rapeseed Cake

Energy Sources, 2001
The fixed bed atmospheric pressure pyrolysis and nitrogen swept pyrolysis of the rapeseed cake obtained from cold extraction press have been investigated. Experiments were performed in the Heinze retort at a 7°C min -1 heating rate, with a 500°C final temperature varying sweep gas velocity (50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 cm 3 min -1 ) under nitrogen ...
