Interactions in Fixed Effects Regression Models [PDF]

open access: yesSociological Methods & Research, 2020
An interaction in a fixed effects (FE) regression is usually specified by demeaning the product term. How-ever, algebraic transformations reveal that this strategy does not yield a within-unit estimator. Instead, the standard FE interaction estimator reflects unit-level differences of the interacted variables.

Not so Harmless After All: The Fixed-Effects Model

open access: yesPolitical Analysis, 2018
The fixed-effects estimator is biased in the presence of dynamic misspecification and omitted within variation correlated with one of the regressors. We argue and demonstrate that fixed-effects estimates can amplify the bias from dynamic misspecification

On the Use of Two-Way Fixed Effects Regression Models for Causal Inference with Panel Data

open access: yesPolitical Analysis, 2020
The two-way linear fixed effects regression (2FE) has become a default method for estimating causal effects from panel data. Many applied researchers use the 2FE estimator to adjust for unobserved unit-specific and time-specific confounders at the same ...

Consistent estimation of the fixed effects ordered logit model

open access: yesSocial Science Research Network, 2015
The paper considers panel data methods for estimating ordered logit models with individual‐specific correlated unobserved heterogeneity. We show that a popular approach is inconsistent, whereas some consistent and efficient estimators are available ...
