Considerations for Conservative, All-Ceramic Prosthodontic Single-Tooth Replacements in the Anterior Region: A Systematic Review

open access: yesDentistry Journal
Background/Objectives: Conservative options for single-tooth replacements in the anterior region include all-ceramic one-retainer resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) and three-unit fixed partial dentures (FPDs).

From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

Influence of the amount of tooth surface preparation on the shear bond strength of zirconia cantilever single-retainer resinbonded fixed partial denture

open access: yes, 2018
PURPOSE. Conventional resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) are usually made with a two-retainer design. Unlike conventional RBFPDs, cantilever resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (Cantilever RBFPDs) are, for their part, made with a single ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Chiral separation of chloroalkanes with the chromatographic column onboard Martian rovers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Computer image of the Rosalind Franklin Rover of ESA's ExoMars mission. ExoMars is scheduled to land on planet Mars in Oxia Planum in 2029. This area represents an interesting spot to look for biosignatures. Investigations of ExoMars include measurement on molecular chirality. We show that chiral chloroalkanes, that have been identified on Mars, can be

A non-acrylic Cast Retainer (Al-Balkhi Type)

open access: yes, 1993
Existing retainers are either fixed or removable. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. An attempt is made to introduce a non-acrylic removable retainer that has the advantages of both removable and fixed retainers, but without inheriting their ...

QuickTRAY: A Revolutionary Glue Gun Fixed Lingual Retainer Bonding Tray

open access: yesJournal of Indian Orthodontic Society
Orthodontic relapse remains a persistent challenge despite proper treatment and retention protocols. Fixed retainers, typically stainless steel or tri-flex nickel–titanium wires bonded to the lingual surfaces of the anterior teeth, are commonly used to ...

Prospecting the protein design landscape

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review outlines the current state of various protein design approaches. We discuss the current possibilities enabled by recently released tools, highlight future avenues to pursue in protein design, and underscore the crucial role of key databases and resources for successful protein design workflows.

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.
