Metabolic fate of drugs of abuse and new psychoactive substances: A pilot study on a novel workflow using a zebrafish embryo model combined with human microdosing

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim The aim of this study was to develop a novel workflow to identify human urine biomarkers for drugs of abuse and new psychoactive substances. Metabolites of amphetamine, cocaine, LSD, MDMA, methamphetamine, THC, MDMB‐CHMICA, and MDPPP were first identified in a zebrafish embryo (ZE) metabolism study followed by comparison to most abundant human ...

Possible therapeutic repositioning of valproic acid: From epileptic seizures to acute kidney injury

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Valproic acid, an anticonvulsant, may be repositioned to prevent acute kidney injury due to ischemia followed by reperfusion. It preserves renal functions, electrolyte homeostasis and active sodium transport in kidney tubules, and blocks the onset of hypertension.

Controlling the Field: Memory, Labor, and Ethics in Oral Histories of Brazilian Human Genetics

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, EarlyView.
This article examines how oral histories of twentieth‐century human genetics in Brazil reveal the politics of memory of fieldwork. Through a comparative analysis of interviews with prominent geneticist Francisco M. Salzano and technician Girley V. Simões, who worked with him for most of his career, this study explores the narrative strategies each ...

Ligand architecture and secondary‐sphere effects in a well‐defined cobalt(IV)–oxo complex

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
A well‐defined cobalt(IV)–oxo complex supported by a neutral tetraazamacrocyclic ligand is generated and fully characterized. The cobalt(IV)–oxo species exhibits electrophilic oxygen‐atom and hydrogen‐atom transfer reactivity, strongly modulated by protonation and secondary coordination sphere effects, providing new insight into structure–reactivity ...

Spatial metrics in fire ecology: seeking consistency amidst complexity

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Technological advances, including remote sensing, have led to a proliferation of metrics used in ecological studies to examine spatial patterns of fire regimes and their ecological effects. Researchers can use many different metrics to analyse spatial variation in both fire events and resulting fire regimes, including fire size, shape ...
