Flame characteristics depending on recirculating flows in a non-premixed micro combustor with varying baffles

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2019
For an efficient micro combustor, the introduction of a bluff body has been a major design factor due to favorable effects for flame holding. To investigate the relation between flame characteristics and recirculation patterns originated from bluff ...

Characteristics of Flame Bases for V-Gutters Stabilized Premixed Flames

Volume 8A: Heat Transfer and Thermal Engineering, 2013
The objective of this work is to investigate the flame stabilization mechanism and the impact of the operating conditions on the characteristics of the steady, lean premixed flames. It’s well known that the flame base is very important to the existence of a flame, such as the flame after a V-gutter, which is typically used in ramjet and turbojet or ...

Radiative characteristics and flame structure of small-pool flames

Fire Technology, 1996
A new way of using thermography for radiative objects like pool flames has been developed by the author. The thermography method, which has already been applied to large pool fires, is applied to small pool flames in this paper. The radiative characteristics and flame structure of small pool flames are considered by examining flame temperature ...

Flame Holding and Combustion Characteristics of a Geometrical Flame Holder

Heat Transfer: Volume 3, 2008
Flame Stabilization in a high-speed premixed environment requires the presence of a mechanism to stabilize the flame. Bluff bodies or geometrical flame holders introduce a recirculation zone that anchor the flame. The current study considers the influence of equivalence ratio and the boundary layer state at the trailing edge of the flame holder on the ...

Approximation of laminar flame characteristics on premixed ammonia/hydrogen/nitrogen/air mixtures at elevated temperatures and pressures

Fuel, 2018
Ammonia shows a promising potential to be a carbon-free and sustainable fuel for gas turbines and internal combustion engines. The design of such complex combustion systems using computational reactive fluid dynamics in combination with detailed reaction

Lift-off characteristics of turbulent jet diffusion flames

20th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1982
A theoretical analysis of turbulent jet diffusion flames is developed in which the flame is regarded as an ensemble of laminar diffusion flamelets that are highly distorted. The flow inhomogeneities are considered to be sufficiently strong to produce local quenching events for flamelets as a consequence of excessive flame stretch.

Effect of turbulence characteristics on local flame structure of H2-air premixed flames

Journal of Turbulence, 2002
Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of turbulent premixed flames are conducted to investigate effects of turbulence characteristics on the local flame structure. A detailed kinetic mechanism including 12 reactive species and 27 elementary reactions is used to represent the H2–air reaction in turbulence. Numerical conditions of DNS can be classified into

Frequency characteristics of a laminar flame

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 1975
A theoretical study is made of the effect of harmonic pressure oscillations on a flat laminar flame. Frequency characteristics of the flames are obtained at amplitudes of the pressure oscillations which are small compared with the average pressure. It is established that in a broad range of frequencies the disturbances in the integral rate of heat ...
