Mechanisms of flame stabilisation at low lifted height in a turbulent lifted slot-jet flame

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015
A turbulent lifted slot-jet flame is studied using direct numerical simulation (DNS). A one-step chemistry model is employed with a mixture-fraction-dependent activation energy which can reproduce qualitatively the dependence of the laminar burning rate on the equivalence ratio that is typical of hydrocarbon fuels. The basic structure of the flame base

Economic and environmental implications of the development of UASB reactors in Mexico for sustainable industrial wastewater treatment

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract The objective of this work is to demonstrate that the inclusion of an up‐flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB reactor) within an industrial wastewater treatment plant reduces the plant's investment and operating costs compared to a system based solely on conventional complete‐mix activated sludge (CMAS), operating under the same design principles ...

Molten‐Salt‐Mediated Chemical Looping Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Ethane with In‐Situ Carbon Capture and Utilization

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
A sustainable alternative to steam cracking, the molten‐salt‐mediated oxidative dehydrogenation (MM‐ODH) of ethane (C2H6) in Li2CO3‐Na2CO3‐K2CO3 (LNK) couples thermal cracking with melt‐mediated CO2 capture to realize commercially competitive C2H4 and CO yields. LNK composition strongly influences MM‐ODH process outcomes.

A review of wildland fire spread modelling, 1990-present, 1: Physical and quasi-physical models

open access: yes, 2007
In recent years, advances in computational power and spatial data analysis (GIS, remote sensing, etc) have led to an increase in attempts to model the spread and behaviour of wildland fires across the landscape. This series of review papers endeavours to

Flame Height of a Turbulent Diffusion Jet Flame with a Comparatively High Initial Discharging Velocity

open access: yesFire Science and Technology, 2010
A series of experiments was carried out in order to investigate the visible flame height of a jet flame with a high initial discharging velocity where the fuel-release time and mass flow rate of fuel were varied. The values of non-dimensional heat release rate (Q*) in present experiment were in the range of 107 Q* 8.

Experimental study on burning rate and flame geometry in construction tunnel fires under high geothermal conditions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract As tunnel construction advances in lengths and depths, the construction of tunnels in high geothermal environments has become increasingly common, raising significant fire risks. In this study, a 1:20 scale model tunnel test platform was constructed to investigate the effects of a high geothermal environment on fire behavior in tunnels during ...

Influence of magnetic field on renewable oil flame characteristics-an experimental and image processing analysis with bibliometric study

open access: yese-Prime: Advances in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Energy
This study investigates the influence of a magnetic field on the flame characteristics of waste cooking oil. A circular current-carrying coil was used to generate magnetic fields of varying strengths (131.37 G, 234.19 G, 337.07 G, 394.12 G, and 428.39 G),

Flame‐Retardant Bio‐Based Thermo‐Flexible Phase‐Change Composites with Antivibration and Low‐Contact Resistance for Advanced Battery Thermal Management

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Flame‐retardant bio‐based thermo‐flexible phase‐change composites for advanced battery thermal management. Batteries face critical challenges in thermal management, including overheating risks, poor interfacial contact, and mechanical vibration–induced performance attenuation.
