Height of Flames Projecting from Compartment Openings
External flaming from buildings occurs as a result of a large amount of fuel being available in the room of fire origin in comparison to the amount of ventilation provided. The size of the openings in a compartment affects the amount of oxygen available within the fire room, and hence the amount of combustion that can take place inside.

A Correlation for the Flame Height in "Group" Fires
A correlation of flame heights is presented for recent experiments of merging group fires produced from arrays of gaseous burners. The correlation is based on two considerations: a) the air entrainment up to the flame height is proportional to the stoichiometric requirements for combustion of the fuel and b)the air entrained is equal to the side area ...

Flame height measurement of laminar inverse diffusion flames [PDF]
Flame heights of co-flowing cylindrical ethylene-air and methane-air laminar inverse diffusion flames were measured. The luminous flame height was found to be greater than the height of the reaction zone determined by planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) of hydroxyl radicals (OH) because of luminous soot above the reaction zone.

Characteristics Of Large Diffusion Flames Burning In A Vitiated Atmosphere [PDF]
Experiments concerning properties of large diffusion flames burning steadily in a vitiated atmosphere under conditions similar to those which may arise in a room fire are described. The effects of vitiation on the products of combustion and flame lengths,
