Study on characterization of flame propagation of spontaneous ignition caused by high-pressure hydrogen leakage

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
As an ideal energy source, hydrogen is highly susceptible to spontaneous ignition once leaked, which is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed. Based on the shock tube model, this paper investigates flame propagation under various pressures, tube ...

Numerical simulation study on combustion characteristics of square hollow oil pool fire in ship cabins [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
To study the combustion phenomenon of square hollow fire sources in ship cabins, PyroSim software was used to establish numerical models of different inner and outer edge lengths of the same fire source area. FDS software was used to numerically simulate

Temperature and pollution control in flames [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We apply control theory for PDEs to flame control. The targeted flame is calculated with complex chemistry. For pollutant control in flames we study both the control of temperature distribution in the flame and flame length at given fuel rate in the flow.

Type Ia Supernova: Burning and Detonation in the Distributed Regime

open access: yes, 2007
A simple, semi-analytic representation is developed for nuclear burning in Type Ia supernovae in the special case where turbulent eddies completely disrupt the flame. The speed and width of the ``distributed'' flame front are derived.

In Situ Photopolymerization of Smectic B Liquid‐Crystalline Electrolytes from Mesogenic Phosphate–Diacrylate/Ionic Liquid Complexes for High‐Performance Soft Ionic Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A flexible liquid‐crystalline electrolyte membrane via in situ photopolymerization of a phosphate‐functionalized mesogen, ionic liquid, and diacrylate monomer is developed. The resulting smectic B (SmB)‐phase structure enables 2D ion transport with high conductivity (10−4 S cm−1).

Effects of Composition Heterogeneities on Flame Kernel Propagation: A DNS Study

open access: yesFluids, 2020
In this study, a new set of direct numerical simulations is generated and used to examine the influence of mixture composition heterogeneities on the propagation of a premixed iso-octane/air spherical turbulent flame, with a representative chemical ...

Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

An analysis of turbulent diffusion flame in axisymmetric jet [PDF]

open access: yes
The kinetic theory of turbulent flow was employed to study the mixing limited combustion of hydrogen in axisymmetric jets. The integro-differential equations in two spatial and three velocity coordinates describing the combustion were reduced to a set of

Flame interactions in turbulent premixed twin V-flames [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Multiple flame-flame interactions in premixed combustion are investigated using Direct Numerical Simulations of twin turbulent V-flames for a range of turbulence intensities and length scales.
