Investigation of ignition and flame propagation in an axisymmetric supersonic combustor with laser-induced plasma

The Physics of Fluids, 2023
The ignition and flame propagation in an axisymmetric supersonic combustor were investigated. The laser-induced plasma was employed to ignite the supersonic inflow with a speed of Mach 2.5 and a total temperature of 1486 K.

Overview of Autoignition and Flame Propagation Properties for Ammonia Combustion

AIAA Journal, 2023
With the increasingly stringent [Formula: see text] emission, next-generation propulsion systems with chemical reaction combustion involved need to operate with carbon-free fuels, such as ammonia or hydrogen.

Investigation of Premixed Hydrogen/Methane Flame Propagation and Kinetic Characteristics for Continuous Obstacles with Gradient Barrier Ratio

Social Science Research Network, 2023
Employing both experimental and computational methods, this paper investigates the propagation characteristics of the explosion flame for two cases with gradually increasing and decreasing barrier ratios of continuous obstacles. Three variation gradients

Flame propagation patterns and local flame features of an annular combustor with multiple centrally staged swirling burners

The Physics of Fluids, 2023
In this paper, the transient ignition process of an annular combustor with 16 centrally staged swirling burners is experimentally investigated to study the mechanism of burner–burner flame propagation.

Flame Propagation Velocity for Co-combustion of Pulverized Coals and Gas Fuels

, 2021
A model was developed to evaluate the flame propagation velocity for co-combustion of pulverized coals and gas fuels such as ammonia, methane, hydrogen, and other fuels.

Theory of flame propagation

Proceedings of the Symposium on Combustion, 1937
Summary In Mallard and Le Chatelier's treatment of flame propagation the problem is considered simply one of heat flow in which the unburnt gas is raised to its ignition temperature. Although crude, this treatment is able to explain a number of observations: limits of inflammability, effect of diluent gases on the latter and on rate of flame ...

Flame Propagation with Multiple Fuels

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1982
The steady propagation of a flame through a premixed combustible mixture is studied for the case in which the mixture consists of two distinct fuels. We employ the method of matched asymptotic expansions to derive a solution for large activation energies, in which case both chemical reactions are confined to a thin layer.

Effects of Initial Temperature on the Deflagration Characteristics and Flame Propagation Behaviors of CH4 and Its Blends with C2H6, C2H4, CO, and H2

Energy & Fuels, 2020
An experimental study was performed on pressure evolution and flame propagation for CH4 and its blends with C2H6, C2H4, CO, and H2 over its entire flammable range for systems with various concentra...
