Flame stability of rod stabilised premixed butane/air flames

Journal of the Energy Institute, 2009
AbstractRegions of flame stability were obtained experimentally for a premixed butane/air flame stabilised by an axially mounted solid rod for low Reynolds numbers ...

Boundary Layer Flame Stabilization

Journal of Jet Propulsion, 1955
An initial experimental investigation of boundary layer flame interaction has been carried out . Homogeneous propane-air gas mixtures with laminar free stream flow were studied. The flames were essentially two-d imensional and intersected a boundary layer flowing over a flat plate or airfoil shaped plate.

Mechanism of Flame Stabilization in Turbulent, Lifted-Jet Flames

Combustion and Flame, 1998
Particle image velocimetry was used to study the velocity field in the stabilization region of lifted, turbulent CH 4 -jet flames over a range of Reynolds numbers from 7000 to 19,500. Measured velocities at the flame base are considerably below the turbulent flame speeds derived from previous studies and show a dependence on the Reynolds number.

Flame stabilization behind bluff bodies

25th Joint Propulsion Conference, 1989
Recently, a formula based on a semi-empirical model was proposed to estimate the blowoff velocity of the flame in t,he wake of a bluff body located in a high velocity stream of a premixed fuel-air combustible mixture. The physical and chemical parameters that appear in the formula are easily estimated.

Monitoring Oxy-Coal Flame Stability

2018 IEEE 27th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2018
This paper presents a novel approach to monitoring the stability of oxy-coal flames. Oxy-coal combustion has the potential to generate high concentrations of carbon dioxide in the exhaust gas stream. This could increase the efficiency of the removal of carbon dioxide emissions from a coal fired utility boiler.

Radiation effects on flame stabilization on flat flame burners

Combustion and Flame, 2012
Abstract This study investigates the impact of radiative heat transfer on the behavior of flat flame burners within the framework of a simplified one-dimensional model. Flat flame burners stabilize planar premixed flames downstream of a porous plug.

Edge-Flames and Their Stability

Combustion Science and Technology, 1996
Flame sheets that arise in non-premixed combustion often have edges. The leading edge of a flame spreading over a fuel-bed, solid or liquid, is one example. The edge of a hemi-spherical candle flame in microgravity is another. We construct a one-dimensional model which contains some of the essential physics of these edge-flames, and use this model to ...

Basic Studies on Flame Stabilization

Journal of the Aeronautical Sciences, 1949
This is a report of initial studies to determine the mechanism of anchoring flame in high-velocity air-fuel streams. Simple bluff shapes were used as flame stabilizers in a constant area 1X 3-in. rectangular duct carrying homogeneous mixtures of air and gaseous fuel.

Stabilization of Flame-Retarded Polypropylene

2003
Ultraviolet (UV) stabilization of polypropylene (PP) systems containing flame retardants proves to be a difficult technical challenge. The reason for this difficulty is expanded on later. However, generation of acidic products from bromine-based flame retardants during processing or exposure can cause a catastrophic deactivation of the hindered amine ...

Flame stabilization by plasma jets

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1971
The possibility of increasing flame reaction rates, stability and hence the throughput of chemical energy achievable by the addition of a small proportion of electrical power is stuided. The power is added to a subsidiary stream of different gases by a magnetically rotated plasma jet. Rates of rotation of the order 10 5
