Phosphorus flame retardants with different chemical environment. Thermal stability and flame-retardant efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
16Engineering plastics (PA, PBT) have their own high processing temperatures (250-350°C and even higher). To realize fire-resistant polymers it is necessary to compound polymers and flame retardants at these temperatures without a serious change in the ...

Experimental Comparison of Working Region, Flame Stability, and Flame Height of LPG, DME, and DME-mixed LPG in an Atmospheric Diffusion Cylindrical Burner

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2020
This study investigates the possibility of substituting liquid petroleum gas (LPG) with dimethyl ether (DME) by considering the procedures of burner design in terms of working region, flame stability, and flame height. An experiment was designed using

Study on flame stability in oxygen-enriched ammonia/N2/O2 laminar diffusion flame

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2018
Ammonia is regarded as one of the alternative fuels because CO2 is not emitted during the combustion process of ammonia. The physical properties of ammonia are suitable for transportation and storage as a “hydrogen carrier”.

Intrinsic instability of flame-acoustic coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper shows that a flame can be an intrinsically unstable acoustic element. The finding is clarified in the framework of an acoustic network model, where the flame is described by an acoustic scattering matrix.

Effect of N2 Replacement by CO2 in Coaxial-Flow on the Combustion and Emission of a Diffusion Flame

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
In this study, a double concentric burner burning methane with an annular coaxially-flowing oxidizer was adopted to operate the diffusion flame in lifted flame regime. The effects of coaxial-flow velocity, coaxial-flow composition variation through total

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Stability of non-premixed turbulent methane flames: Numerical simulations of the critical diameter and flame stability limits

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology
A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model is developed and validated against experimental data to predict the critical diameter and stability limits of non-premixed turbulent methane flames.

On Flame Stability In The Hysteresis Regime In Co-Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This study documents experiments performed on lifted turbulent diffusion flames in the hysteresis regime with air co-flow. Undiluted methane, ethylene, and propane were used as fuels and two nozzle sizes were used. The results confirm the non-linearity

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
