Liquid Fuel Flameless Combustion RANS Simulation

Volume 3: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, Parts A and B, 2008
The numerical simulation of flameless combustion with liquid fuels is presented. Computations follow a RANS approach for turbulence modeling with a global reaction mechanism and the eddy dissipation concept for the combustion. Several approaches were tested for defining spray boundary conditions.

On mathematical modelling of flameless combustion

Combustion and Flame, 2007
A further analysis of the IFRF semi-industrial-scale experiments on flameless (mild) combustion of natural gas is carried out. The experimental burner features a strong oxidizer jet and two weak natural gas jets. Numerous publications have shown the inability of various RANS-based mathematical models to predict the structure of the weak jet.

Reaction zone structure in flameless combustion

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2000
We present a study of the combustion limit and reaction zone structure of non-premixed counterflow flames of highly preheated air and methane diluted with nitrogen. First, we measured the flammable region experimentally in the range of air temperatures up to 800 K.

Flameless combustion behaviour of preheated pulverized coal

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2017
AbstractA method for stable flameless combustion of pulverized coal based on coal preheating was recently proposed. The method involves the initial heating of pulverized coal to a temperature above 800 °C. The heated coal is then transferred into a combustion chamber, where it is mixed with secondary air injected at a high velocity to achieve flameless

Investigation of bluff-body micro-flameless combustion

Energy Conversion and Management, 2014
Abstract Characteristics of lean premixed conventional micro-combustion and lean non-premixed flameless regime of methane/air are investigated in this paper by solving three-dimensional governing equations. At moderate equivalence ratio ( ∅  = 0.5), standard k – e and the eddy-dissipation concept are employed to simulate temperature distribution ...

THEORETICAL AND NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION ON FLAMELESS COMBUSTION

Combustion Science and Technology, 2002
Abstract Flameless combustion has been acknowledged as one of the most interesting combustion technologies to meet both the targets of high process efficiency and low pollutant emissions. A theoretical and numerical investigation, carried out to provide a consistent physico-chemical explanation of this combustion regime, is reported here.

Realization of Flameless Combustion of Liquid Fuel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Being an advantageous combustion technology, flameless combustion is being widely investigated mainly with gaseous fuels for its high efficiency and low pollution. In this paper the realization of liquid flameless combustion in micro turbine environment is investigated.
