Modelling of turbulent lifted jet flames using flamelets: a priori assessment and a posteriori validation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study focuses on the modelling of turbulent lifted jet flames using flamelets and presumed PDF approach with interests on both flame lift-off height and flame brush structure.

Modeling of Spray Combustion with a Steady Laminar Flamelet Model in an Aeroengine Combustion Chamber Based on OpenFOAM

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
The development of high‐performance aeroengine combustion chambers strongly depends on the accuracy and reliability of efficient numerical models. In the present work, a reacting solver with a steady laminar flamelet model and spray model has been developed in OpenFOAM and the solver details are presented.

Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Combustion in a Model Swirl Gas Turbine Combustor

open access: yesJournal of Combustion, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Turbulent reacting flows in a generic swirl gas turbine combustor are investigated numerically. Turbulence is modelled by a URANS formulation in combination with the SST turbulence model, as the basic modelling approach. For comparison, URANS is applied also in combination with the RSM turbulence model to one of the investigated cases.

Large Eddy Simulation of multi-injector flame blow-off sensitivities to inlet biases

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Reactant biases of mass flow rate or stochiometry can result from design trade-offs in industrial implementations of multi-injector, lean-premixed flames.

Assessment of flamelet manifolds for turbulent flame-wall interactions in Large-Eddy Simulations

open access: yes, 2023
A turbulent side-wall quenching (SWQ) flame in a fully developed channel flow is studied using Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) with a tabulated chemistry approach.

Conditional Moment Closure Modelling of a Lifted H2/N2 Turbulent Jet Flame Using the Presumed Mapping Function Approach

open access: yesJournal of Combustion, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
A lifted hydrogen/nitrogen turbulent jet flame issuing into a vitiated coflow is investigated using the conditional moment closure (CMC) supplemented by the presumed mapping function (PMF) approach for the modelling of conditional mixing and velocity statistics.

Nitric oxide pollutant formation in high hydrogen content (HHC) syngas flames [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Three-dimensional direct numerical simulations (DNS) of high hydrogen content (HHC) syngas nonpremixed jet flames with a Reynolds number of Re = 6000 have been carried out to study the nitric oxide (NO) pollutant formation.

Investigation to charge cooling effect and combustion characteristics of ethanol direct injection in a gasoline port injection engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Ethanol direct injection has the potentials to increase the engine compression ratio and thermal efficiency by taking advantages of ethanol fuel such as the high octane number and latent heat.
