Calibration assessment of forest flammability potential in Italy
Fuel flammability is defined as the relative ease with which a fuel will ignite and burn with a flame; different forest types have different intrinsic “baseline” flammabilities, depending on the susceptibility to burn of the main tree species that build ...

The main purpose of the study is to examine the impact of drastic and proactive forest fire interventions, which are applied to avoid the risk of loss of life and property close to urban areas, on the continuity of plant species with fire-adapted ...

Flammability Characteristics of Surface Fuels in a Longleaf Pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) Woodland
To investigate fuel flammability, we quantified burning characteristics of 21 fuel categories in a longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) woodland in central Alabama, USA. Litter was burned under controlled laboratory conditions.

The flammable fabrics problem [PDF]
The following paper deals with a type of accident whose etiology includes an aspect of modern technology—in this case the use of flammable fabrics in commercially manufactured clothing. In its opening pages, the paper deals with one of the essential first steps in the development of countermeasures, namely, the large-scale and systematic

The 2021 fire season in Greece was the worst of the past 13 years, resulting in more than 130,000 ha of burnt area, with about 70% consumed by five wildfires that ignited and spread in early August. Common to these wildfires was the occurrence of violent

Sparse Graphs Are Not Flammable [PDF]
In this paper, we consider the following \emph{$k$-many firefighter problem} on a finite graph $G=(V,E)$. Suppose that a fire breaks out at a given vertex $v \in V$. In each subsequent time unit, a firefighter protects $k$ vertices which are not yet on fire, and then the fire spreads to all unprotected neighbours of the vertices on fire.

One of the major factors influencing forest fuel combustion are terpenoids, a fraction of flammable Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOCs) produced and stored by most Mediterranean species.

Plant traits linked to field-scale flammability metrics in prescribed burns in Eucalyptus forest.
Vegetation is a key determinant of wildfire behaviour at field scales as it functions as fuel. Past studies in the laboratory show that plant flammability, the ability of plants to ignite and maintain combustion, is a function of their traits.

Research has recently transitioned from the study of fossil-based materials to bio-sourced ones, following the quest to achieve sustainability. However, fire presents a unique hazard to bio-composite materials, which limits their applicability in various
