Characterization and Phylogenomic Implications of the Mitochondrial Genome of Rhithrogena elasmaris (Ephemeroptera: Heptageniidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study presents the first complete mitochondrial genome of Rhithrogena elasmaris, revealing its structural features and codon usage patterns. Comparative analysis with 29 other Heptageniidae species showed high genetic diversity and strong purifying selection across protein‐coding genes.

Phylogenetic Relationships of Plant Bugs Based on Mitochondrial Genomes (Heteroptera: Miridae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study for the first time employs mitochondrial genomes to resolve Miridae phylogeny, with 42 species spanning 39 genera across six of the seven currently recognized subfamilies. Bryocorinae is paraphyletic as the stem groups of Miridae. These findings provide a progressive phylogenetic framework with new significance for the future phylogenetic ...

Development and Characterization of Microsatellite Genetic Markers for Hyalomma rufipes, a Tick Vector of Crimean‐Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study developed and validated 14 polymorphic microsatellite markers to investigate the population genetics of Hyalomma rufipes, a tick species that transmits Crimean‐Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus (CCHFV) in East Africa. Ticks collected from livestock in northern Kenya were morphologically and genetically identified, followed by genome sequencing ...

The Influence of Ultraprocessed Food Consumption on Energy Intake in Emerging Adulthood: A Controlled Feeding Trial

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 2, Page 344-356, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study examined the impact of a 2‐week eucaloric diet high in ultraprocessed foods (UPF) compared to a diet without UPF (non‐UPF) on ad libitum energy intake (EI) and food selection in individuals aged 18–25. Methods In a randomized, crossover, proof‐of‐concept trial, participants completed two 14‐day controlled feeding periods ...

Targeting dCas9‐SunTag to a Susceptibility Gene Promoter Is Sufficient for CRISPR Interference

open access: yesPlant Direct, Volume 10, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Cassava production in sub‐Saharan Africa is severely impacted by diseases. Most pathogens require interaction with host susceptibility factors to complete their life cycles and cause disease. Targeted DNA methylation is an epigenetic strategy to alter gene expression in plants, and we previously reported that a zinc‐finger fused to DMS3 could ...
